  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- So Sweet : One thing that continually draws me to Jane Igahros' work is the culture. I love learning about different places and her writings place you right where the characters are; inviting you into a new place and exploring the culture, specifically Nigerian culture and that, along with her overall superb story telling will make me a continual reader of whatever she puts out. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from ceecee -- Lovely story about finding family and love : The story is about Hannah who learns that she has half siblings and is the daughter of a wealthy magnate after he passes away. She travels to Nigeria to attend his funeral and while dealing with her own grief also has to deal with being treated as the dirty little secret by some of her siblings. She draws strength from the romantic connection with Lawrence, her mom and the kindness of Dami and Iya Agba. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Amjedi -- Sweet : Enjoyable book on a really different topic. How do we define our identity and who is family to us? People we are related to by blood, people we grew up with? Should we give people second chances, even if they’ve really wounded us? Can we get in touch with and embrace a cultural heritage we didn’t grow up in? Is it ever good to keep family secrets? These intriguing questions are asked of a family that really didn’t know of the existence of other branches of the family across the ocean until the patriarch of the family dies, and when he does and asks that the family all come together at his funeral, chaos ensues. But this is a story of redemption, of new found relationships and that we can mend fences and find reconciliation and even love, in spite of the deadly secrets of the past. Great, true-to-life characters and realistic plot. I really enjoyed reading this book. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2021 )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Stephanie M. Stephens -- fantastic read! : I really enjoyed this book! The journey that Hannah and the Jolades must go through together and separately was so well put together. I loved getting a peak into part of the Nigerian culture that I know so very little about. Gaining knowledge about other cultures, people and things that I might not ever meet or get to experience in my real life is one of my joys when it comes to reading. This book flowed really well and was hard to put down. I listened to the audio and read the book. I highly recommend both! ( Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2022 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Shonda L Spencer -- Perspective : This book turned out to be much better than I expected because there is so much food for thought embedded in each chapter. The author offers new perspectives about “hate”, forgiveness, ego, self-love, identity, and family. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 9, 2021 )
